Reading lists: Student - how to guide

What is Library Lists and why use it?

Library Lists is the name of the Library's reading list management system, which can help you find lists of required course reading. The lists contain both print and online resources and are linked directly from your unit Moodle pages.

  • All of your units reading is in one place.
  • Direct access to essential reading
  • Links to online books, journal articles and more.
  • Live updates of whether your reading is available in the library.

You can also use your Library List to manage your reading, marking reading as complete or incomplete and then filtering by these tags.

Getting started with my Library List

Once you have accessed your Library List from Moodle, you will see that it is broken down into sections and reading is tagged as Essential, Recommended and Background.  This can help you identify priority reading.

You can use your Library List to see the availability of print texts in the Library.  From the main Library List entry:

You can get more detailed information by clicking directly on the relevant item and you will see additional loan information:

If all of the print copies are on loan, you will see 'check holdings' in the main Library List entry:

You can then click on the item and select 'reserve' to place a hold on the text.

You can view online books and journals directly from your Library List.

To do this, you click on the three dots on the right hand side of the title of the list, then select 'set section collapsed'.
